Important update about the $3.4 billion Indian Trust Settlement

Current or former IIM account holders, owners of land held in trust or restricted status, or their heirs could receive money and must read this update as eligibility for claims will be affected if not submitted by FRIDAY,  MARCH 1, 2013

On December 11, 2012, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia issued an order resetting dates in the Court’s Final Approval Order to the Indian Trust Settlement. You can review a copy of the Order on the website listed below. Pursuant to Paragraph E.4.e.3 of the Settlement Agreement, all individuals who believe that they are entitled to participate in the Settlement as a member of the Trust Administration Class and who are required under the terms of the Settlement Agreement to submit a Claim Form shall do so by mailing a properly completed and signed Claim Form to the Claims Administrator postmarked no later than FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 2013.

If you have not received your Nooksack Tribal Council Election Ballot in the mail, please email or call the Election Superintendent, Katrice Romero, at kromero@nooksack-nsn.gov or 360-592-5176 to request a Replacement Ballot.
Please be reminded: Ballots are due back via US postal mail by Dec.17, 2016 at 1pm to be counted. They must be received by that time, not just postmarked. Thank you!

Temperatures will be dropping to freezing next week, which is why the Youth Department is reminding families to send coats, hats and gloves with their children, especially as youth can so frequently ignore cold temperatures while playing and we need to protect those hearts, heads and hands. We also want to remind families that there may be After School Program closures due to inclement weather, but we will be sure to call our families if there is a program closure. It is with great sadness, that Judy Willie (nee Kelly), has 'walked on' to her journey into the spirit world, on November 13, 2016. Judy was predeceased by her parents, Saraphine Kelly (nee: Joseph of Sts'ailes) and Robert Kelly, of Leq'amel First Nation.

Judy's surviving adult children, Cheryl Lynn Kelly, Sherri Roberts, and Larry Roberts, are planning for their late mother's funeral ceremony to be held:

A burning to follow immediately after the ceremony at the Kelly Family Burning spot, at Mike Kelly's and Myrna Laslo's home, in Deroche, BC. As well, Cheryl, Larry, and Sherri, invite you to a luncheon, too.
