Did your loved one pass due to COVID-19? Starting April 12, 2021 FEMA has opened COVID-19 Funeral Assistance applications for individuals and households. FEMA is offering reimbursement for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020 for up to $9,000. We encourage Tribal members to collect the required documents and call FEMA. The death certificate must indicate that COVID-19 played a role. This also applies to those who may have committed suicide.
You will need the following documents:
- Death certificate
- Proof of funeral expenses
- Insurance or other funeral benefits
Eligible funeral expenses include but are not limited to:
- Transportation for up to two individuals to identify the deceased individual
- Transfer of remains
- Casket or urn
- Burial plot or cremation niche
- Marker or headstone
- Clergy or officiant services
