Effective Immediately: Tribal Government Operating on Essential Services

Administration

Effective Immediately: January 12, 2022

Effective immediately, the Nooksack Tribal Government will be operating on essential staff and services due to the current rise in COVID-19 cases in the Nooksack community. During this shut-down the Nooksack Tribal Government will be operating with a limited staff to help mitigate the further spread of COVID and keep our community safe. Our Tribal Council, Pandemic Response Team, General Manager, and Health Officer all agree that this is the best thing we can do for our staff and our community.

The method of service delivery by the tribal administration, all tribal departments, tribal health center, and tribal court will change. Many of our staff will be working remotely. The Tribe will operate with only essential staff and hazardous response staff to provide vital government services, such as food services, court services, public safety, and medical care.

What Does Essential Government Services Mean?

  • All departments will have staff answering phones during normal business hours.
  • Offices will be closed to in-person visits.
  • All department directors will be available to address program needs.
  • Head Start and Nooksack Youth Department will be operating programs remotely.
  • The Health Clinic and dental office will have staff answering phones.
  • COVID Testing will remain open. Hours will be determined by the Health Director.
  • Prescriptions will still be fulfilled by the Health Clinic.
  • Medical physicians will conduct appointments both in-person and via zoom.
  • The Nooksack Food Bank will still be operational.
  • Elder meals will be delivered to those who regularly attend lunch.
  • The Homeless Shelter will remain open and available.
  • Nooksack Housing will have staff available for calls.
  • Tribal Court staff will be available for normal business hours.
  • The Police Department and Tribal Gaming will remain open as usual.
  • The Tribal Council Election Office will remain open.

The shut-down shall be effective immediately and will be re-evaluated by the General Manager and the Tribal Council on or before January 31, 2022. Our goal is to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to save lives, with minimal disruption of services to our people. Please be safe, take care of each other, wear high-quality masks outside the home, and get vaccinated and boosted as soon as you can.

Sincerely,

Katherine Romero, Nooksack General Manager
